Legendary football coach John Clark, who built a dynasty at Plano in the 1960s and ‘70s, has died. The Plano football team announced his death on Twitter on Sunday. No cause of death was given, but the family of another Plano coaching icon, Tom Kimbrough, posted on Twitter that Clark had been in a nursing facility for some time and died Saturday night in Tyler. Clark led Plano to state championships in 1967 and 1971 and also won a state title as an assistant at Plano in 1965. He was the head coach from 1966 to 1975 and had a record of 107-17, winning 10 or more games in seven of his 10 seasons, including a 14-1 record in 1967 and a 13-1 mark in 1971.
